Why are schools closing?

How were the proposed school closures selected?
A range of factors were considered including current and projected enrollment, the proximity of the site to other schools, current and anticipated maintenance needs, projected new housing developments planned in Inglewood, programs offered at the school, the balance of demographics, the impact on student subgroups, the potential cost-saving from the closure, environmental factors, and programs offered at the schools.

What is being done to improve the District?
IUSD is committed to providing quality education and innovative opportunities for students. We have anticipated developments, such as the establishment of a new high school academy, the innovative reconstruction of Inglewood High School, joint-use collaboration with the City of Inglewood’s Library, and a state-of-the-art community hub sports complex facility, all demonstrate our commitment to enriching the educational experience and ensuring the success of every child in our district. 

When are the proposed schools closing?
The five identified schools are closing in June 2025, after the 2024-2025 school year ends.

What are the plans for the properties of the schools selected for school closure?
The District’s Asset Management Advisory Committee, made up of school district and community representatives, will begin to make recommendations regarding the properties once the school closes in June 2025. 

Are 9th grade students still being enrolled at Morningside High School for the 2024-25 academic school year?
Yes, Morningside High School will enroll 9th grade students during the entirety of the 2024-2025 school year. 

When will schools who are identified for proposed school closures stop enrolling students?
All schools will continue to enroll students until they close.

Will ASES after school programs continue to be offered at all of the proposed school closures for the 2024-2025 academic school year?
Yes, after school programs will continue to be offered at all school sites that currently operate ASES programming.
